Immigration to New Zealand - Family Quota category

The objective of the Family and Family Quota category policy is to strengthen families and communities. The Family Quota category allows for a quota of people each year to be chosen by ballot to be considered for residence in NZ. the number of places available is announced by the Minister of Immigration each year.

The Family Quota category is available if you:

• are sponsored by your adult child, adult grandchild, adult sibling or parent, and
• are not eligible for residence in NZ under any other category; and
• apply within 6 months of the NZIS's advice to your sponsor
  that the sponsor's registration has been drawn from the Family Quota pool.

Requirements for sponsors apply.

Applicants in the Family Quota Category must meet health and character requirements.

The Refugee Family Quota category is available to applicants:

• who are not eligible for residence under any other category of residence with the exception of the Family Quota category; and
• who are sponsored by a family menber who was granted residence in NZ on the basis of their status as a refugee and who is living permanently in NZ; and
• who's sponsor's registration is drawn from the pool of people who have registered under the Refugee Family Quota category.
