Immigration to New Zealand - Family category

The objective of the Family category policy is to strengthen families and communities.
The Family category is available if you:
- are in a genuine and stable marriage with a NZ citizen or resident who sponsors your application; or
- are living in a stable defacto relationship (heterosexual or same sex) for at least
two years with a defacto partner who is a NZ citizen or resident and who sponsors your
application; or
- are the parent of an adult child (biological or adopted), age 17 or over, who is a NZ
resident or citizen who sponsors your application, and the center of gravity of your
family is in New Zealand; or
- are the brother or sister of a NZ citizen or resident and have no other sibblings in
the country of origine and you have an acceptable offer of employment in New Zealand; or
- are the dependent children of NZ citizens or residents.
Applicants in the Family Category must meet health and character requirements.
